THE CHILDREN IN BUJUMBURA

Due to the dire social and political situation in Burundi, many children are in a desperate need of basics to survive. Their parents have died, left or are incapacitated physically or financially.

Nana Cynthia, herself a original member of Rugaba's Children Home Group, has assembled around 100 children in a Children's care organisation UCBUM (United for Children Burundi BW'UNO MUNSI). We have partnered with UCBUM to help Nana take care of these children.

Would you be able to sponsor 1 or more of these children. For $50.00 per month  you can feed a child and assure access to a doctor and secure a safe spot to live during the time of political turmoil.

RUGABA'S CHILDREN:  History a non traditional Orphans Group Home

                  Established 2006

A home refuge with a heart to love and hands to give

Rugaba is a word in Kirundi, the local Burundian language, for God the provider (Jehovah Jireh)

13 years of civil war in Burundi have claimed more than 500,000 lives, but AIDS and related diseases impact the Burundian society in even more devastating ways. 150.000 people in Burundi are currently living with the HIV virus, in 2006 alone 13.000 people have died from HIV and 120.000 children in Burundi are HIV orphans.

Rugaba’s Children Group Home is an AIDS orphans home headed by Diana, the oldest of 4 siblings. She had just finished High school when her mother, the only parent left, passed away from AIDS in a local hospital.

These children depend solely on Rugaba’s grace for food, clothing, education, protection and love. Rugaba’s children say : “We are alive today only because of Christ’s love and compassion and the prayer of the saints.”

Hungry but filled by God’s passion for the least privileged, Rugaba’s children willingly opened their one room house to two more orphans:

-David, 6 years old, was left in the hospital-jail by a mother who could not pay the medical bills and take care of him.

Rugaba's children went back to the hospital where they had met him after burying their own mother, rescued David and gave him a new home

Martin never knew his parents. He grew up in a home and, at the age of 16, was thrown out to make room for smaller children. He became homeless. Rugaba’s children offered him a place in their home.

Diane had dreams and plans for the future, but she forsook them all to offer the younger and needy children a loving home and a safe environment. While she has plenty of love and compassion to help others, she is unable to feed, clothe and educate them.

Rugaba’s childrens’ vision is to reach out to other children who are still waiting for a safe haven, and to integrate them into their orphanage.
